Brian Mcmullan Mayor of St.Catharines
Brian James McMullan is the mayor of St. Catharines, Ontario, Canada. He was elected to the position in the 2006 St. Catharines municipal election. He was previously a St. Catharines city councillor and a Niagara regional councillor. McMullan was born in Hamilton and raised in the Niagara region. He has a degree from Brock University, and is the vice-president of Hanna Paper Recycling. He is a former chairman of the Recycling Council of Ontario, and worked to establish Ontario’s blue box recycling program. McMullan served on St. Catharines City Council from 1988 to 1997, representing the Grantham ward. He was elected to the Niagara Regional Council in 2000. During that time, McMullan co-chaired the region’s Smart Growth Smarter Niagara Steering Committee.
Rick Dykstra MPP St.Catharines
Richard Dykstra was born April 10, 1966 in Grimsby, Ontario. He was elected to the Canadian House of Commons in the 2006 federal election, for the Ontario riding of St. Catharines. Dykstra is a member of the Conservative Party of Canada. Dykstra has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Brock University, and a Master’s Certificate in Project Management from York University. Dykstra served on the St. Catharines City Council from 1991 to 1997, representing St. Patrick’s ward. In 1992, he encouraged the provincial government of Bob Rae to lower its gas tax to combat cross-border shopping, which was adversely affecting Ontario businesses. He served as chair of the Standing Committee on Finance for five of the six years he served on Council. He was responsible for the first budget to decrease spending in a budget year. He also served six years on the Library Board and chaired the board in 1997. In 1996, he attempted to have a book entitled Invisible Darkness by Stephen Williams banned from the city library. The book detailed the crimes of Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka. Bernardo and Homolka were former residents of St. Catharines, and Dykstra argued that he was acting to protect the interests of their victims. The board voted to keep the book in circulation, but ruled that patrons could not remove it from the library.
Jim Bradley MP St.Catharines
James J. (Jim) Bradley was born on February 19, 1945 in Sudbury, Ontario. He is a long-time Ontario Liberal Party politician and Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP) in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. Before entering politics, Bradley was a teacher with the Lincoln County Board of Education. He was elected to St. Catharines’ city council in 1970, but also remained in the classroom until 1977.
Ted Salci Mayor of Niagara Falls
R. T. (Ted) Salci was first elected to the Office of Mayor for the City of Niagara Falls in November, 2003 and was re elected in November of 2006, now serving a four year term. He is a member and Past President of the Niagara Falls Chamber of Commerce, a member and Past President of Niagara Falls Rotary-Sunrise, he has served as a citizen appointee to the Niagara Regional Police Services Board, as well as being appointed to the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario where he chaired their finance committee. Other organizations benefiting from his talents and involvement are Project S.H.A.R.E., the Greater Niagara General Hospital Foundation, and the Niagara Falls Jaycees.
Rob Nicholson MP Niagara Falls
Rob Nicholson serves as the Member of Parliament for Niagara Falls, an electoral district in southern Ontario. Born in 1952, Mr. Nicholson has been a lifelong resident of Niagara Falls, where he practiced law and was involved in municipal politics.First elected to the Canadian House of Commons in 1984, Mr. Nicholson served in a variety of capacities, including Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada, and Minister for Science and Small Businesses. Re-elected in 2004, he was appointed Chief Opposition Whip in January 2005. In February 2006, Mr. Nicholson was named Leader of the Government in the House of Commons and Minister for Democratic Reform. In January 2007, Mr. Nicholson was appointed Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada by Prime Minister Stephen Harper. Mr. Nicholson holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Queen’s University and a law degree from the University of Windsor. He was called to the bar in 1979 and is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada. Mr. Nicholson was appointed federal Queen’s Counsel in 1992.
Kim Craitor MPP Niagara Falls
Kim Craitor is a politician in Ontario, Canada. He is a current member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, representing the constituency of Niagara Falls for the Ontario Liberal Party. Kim Craitor was elected to the Ontario legislature in 2003 and re-elected in 2007. He has served as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Community Safety and Correctional Services. Before becoming an MPP, Craitor served as an alderman for the City of Niagara Falls since 1990. He has chaired Canada Day Celebrations and the City of Niagara Falls Parking and Traffic Committee. He has been a board member of various organizations including the Lundy’s Lane Business Improvement Area, the Fallsview Business Improvement Area and the Queen Street Downtown Management Board. He also served for 10 years on the board of directors for the Niagara Falls Chamber of Commerce. Craitor spent 26 years with Human Resources Development Canada in Niagara as a community relations officer and as an investigation and control officer. He has been executive director of the Niagara Falls Employment Help Centre. Craitor has also been very involved with his community, serving on the board of directors for the YMCA and the YWCA and volunteering with the United Way of Niagara Falls. He was the owner of the Junior B Canucks for the 1997-98 seasons. In 1997, he received the Niagara Falls Review newspaper’s Doug Austin Sports Person of the Year Award.
Damian Goulbourne Mayor of Welland
Regional Councillor Damian Goulbourne is serving his second term as Mayor of the City of Welland. His political career began December 1, 2003. He currently serves on the Planning and Public Works Committee. He also serves on the Transportation Strategy Steering Committee, Culture Committee, Niagara-Hamilton WastePlan Joing Working Group Committee, and the Waste Management Planning Steering Committee.. He is also a board member of the Niagara Economic Development Corporation. He has spent the past 14 years working in the service industry as Marketing Manager, Human Resources and Operations Departments. Councillor Goulbourne was appointed as the representative of the City of Welland to the Humberstone Landfill Site Liaison Committee. He holds a BA in Business Communications from Brock University. He has been a Professor at Niagara College since 1999. Councillor Goulbourne has served on the boards of the Habitat for Humanity Niagara, St. Catharines Heart and Stroke Association, Quaker Road School Advisory Council and as President of the Welland Pelham Chamber of Commerce.
John David Maloney MP Welland
John David Maloney was born on January 5, 1945 in Welland, Ontario. He has been a member of the Canadian House of Commons since 1993, and currently represents the riding of Welland for the Liberal Party. Maloney has a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Diploma in Criminology from the University of Toronto, as well as a law degree from Osgoode Hall.
Peter Kormos MPP Welland
Peter Kormos was born on October 7, 1952 in Welland, Ontario. A former lawyer, he was first elected as an MPP to the Legislative Assembly of Ontario as candidate of the New Democratic Party in the riding of Welland in a by-election in 1988, replacing veteran NDP legislator Mel Swart. Kormos has been re-elected in every Ontario general election since then.
